For now, the module is on the new vault:
Chapter 2 - BETA
You play at your own risk of getting stuck. I'll get back to testing it myself when I have more time. Sometimes other people can't report some unintended game behavior because they don't know what I actually wanted...
I want to make a new poll about the characters and wish to hear players' feelings about where this is going and any theories. Arrr!
I was able to DL the .mod, the .haks (3), and the music files.
ReplyDeleteGame loaded without error as well.
Just when I was about to retire for the day as well, I saw the update :)
ReplyDeleteI was able to download the module and go through the first conversation with Raze. Looks good so far. I think I won't be going to sleep after all :D
S.
I'm so happy I decided to check the blog before going to bed! I've downloaded the files successfully, the module loaded up and I'm a few minutes in. I'll be sure to report any bugs I might find!
ReplyDeleteThank you for your hard work!
I'm unsure if this is a bug, but after I get sent to the maze Brash does not appear in the maze area (aka I have my key but cannot unlock the second door leading to the huge scorpion.
ReplyDeleten/m missed the secret room.
Deletewhere's the "secret room"? i've been finding the room almost an hour, but i didn't find it anywhere.
DeleteAround the center of the area, when you walk toward a wall. Try following the bloodstains.
Delete@Lamb
Deletethx :] FINALLY i found it!
Time for the play and beta-testing! :D
ReplyDeleteJust completed my first playthrough (no Arana, sided with Brash/romanced him) with no problems. I'll do a couple more and report back soon. :)
ReplyDeleteGot stuck for a few minutes with a missing custom talks table error message when trying to start the module. Chapter one and prelude working made it no less confusing. :)
ReplyDeleteTurns out I hadn't updated the ch1 files so had to download all those new files to get it working.
Might want to add that you need the latest files from previous chapters as well, in case there are more than me that have been asleep for too long.
Thanks for this. I had the same problem but you gave me the solution. :]
DeleteSame, thanks for solution
Deleteaw shit,here goes my boredoom...
ReplyDeleteMy post will contain SPOILERS.
ReplyDeleteI've played through right up until you have to choose b/w R and B. I had to reload several times- even then, when siding with no one, R gets angry when you rescue B from the chasm-.
So I've decided to take a break from playing until I can stick to one decision!
The good news is I haven't found any bugs. Everything's amazing, really- noticed one typo in R's dialogue in the Inn when you met S ("get* close to you").
One misgiving I have is how Raze progresses from being untrusting when the PC tries to make romantic advances (during the castle dream sequence) to angling for kisses post-Python cave in. In my playthrough, there was only one quest in between those scenes!
I'm not sure whether its because I didn't recieve any rest penalties (so I saw no need to rest until one of the Prophets suggested I do so- after which I had the dream, and immediately set out with S to steal horses), and thus is a bug, or whether I'm just overthinking this and Raze is just a very capricious character (:
SPOILERS
DeleteThat chasm scene is close to the end of the module. If you don't return Brash to your party, I don't think I'll make him appear in the next chapter.
Well, it's also due to me changing the character, but Raze could also be changing his mind as the wind blows. Maybe he felt encouraged because you tried something in the dream. He didn't know how to react then, but now he decided to take a risk. xD (He also does it if you don't try anything in the dream, but that would decrease the chances of him coming to your aid in the first place.)
I do want to return Brash to the party (imagine the potential B/R hateful banter!) but will it shut off R's romance? I do remember a blogpost mentioning that you didnt want to put romance conflicts in yet- but I'm sort of getting that vibe from R's silent tantrum now -.-' despite the kiss at the end of the chasm conversation.
DeleteNah, I'd rather let the player make a definite choice in the next module. R will have to deal with it. As long as you don't kill someone or abandon them in Ravage, they should be open for romance. I'm only not sure about treating Arana terribly and if that can be reversed.
DeleteNot sure if it's a bug or working as intended but the young girl I approached in Ravage (the bruised up one, Arana suggested she could use help) disappered during my fight with the sailors that came for her. Does she just run away from me or something went wrong?
ReplyDeleteOtherwise was able to finish the mod without any problems (good thing I saved before entering that swamp near the end - those arachnids did some nasty things to us all :P). It's great and I plan to make a next attept soon - with a different demonheart girl this time to see different outcomes here and there :)
Thank you for all the hard work you put into this project!
That was working as intended, she didn't want the help :o
DeleteI thought so but wanted to be sure - I want to save the world and those ungrateful people just disappear on me :P
DeleteKidding, it's a great design :)
It says I'm missing a custom talk table. I can load the Prelude and Chapter 1 fine though :\
ReplyDeleteIt uses dhlamb_2_0.tlk , maybe you have an older version.
Deleteokay, never mind. took a little more digging around than it really should have, but I found the updated talk files in the old vault, where all the other hak files are kept. >_>
DeleteHey Lamb,
ReplyDeleteThanks for another great chapter! Found one apparent bug - if you die while suffering hunger penalties, you fail to resurrect properly. I did anyway. My character would get up, then fall back down again as the con penalty got reapplied. And again. And again.
I was able to break out of it by pausing just after she got up, hitting debug mode and healing my gal.
Cheers!
Hey Lamb,
ReplyDeleteI haven't gotten overly far yet but one thing that I did notice was this:
When I started the game I started with the -1 penalties to str, dex, and con. At first I didn't know what it was for but a few minutes later I got the "hunger penalties" message and then my penalties disappeared. I thought that was odd and maybe backwards? I saved the game and re-loaded just to see and my penalties came back on re-load. A while later I got the message again as well as having the penalties disappear again.
I'm not sure if it's just me but I thought I'd let you know anyway just in case.
Loving everything so far! I'll come back with more if I find anything as I go along.
I don't know what I did but the hunger stuff seems to be working perfectly fine for me now so just ignore that post :P Sorry if I added any confusion while you're trying to get everything working right!
DeleteI've had problems with resurrection when I tested, but not as of late, so I assumed it worked as it should. Since people are still experiencing some bugs, I'll have to look into it. Hunger penalties wouldn't be my first suspect, but who knows. I did have the hunger turned off through most of my testing, and then I played with a character who had 15 constitution (so losing 1 point would not reduce her health anyway).
DeleteWarning - contains spoilers
ReplyDeleteJust spent a whole day playing through it... wanted to thank you for all the hard work you've put into it. This module definitely left me wanting moar XD
The choice between B and R is... maddening. I mean, I like both of them, so it was really hard to choose >_> I played as a good character and didn't regret it - some of the scenes you get this way are really adorable.
(Also, I have a really bad feeling about the prophecy. And Thayn. Because I kinda think like they are connected. Poor PC, this is the last thing she needs... ugh, sorry, just my imagination running rampant again)
Ah, also, I didn't see any bugs during this playthrough... unless I've missed something.
Thank you again, and good luck in your life and in your work :)
Got it starting up smoothly, but I encounter an error: Every 30 minutes or so, my game freezes, and I have to restart my laptop. Am I the only one that this is happening to?
ReplyDeleteI'm just foolling around in Ravage, looting crates and stuff, and I love the atmosphere! It was worth the wait!
When Kurts defeats me, the game attempts to put me in the cellar, but for some reason it gets stuck on the blackscreen, and I hear combat sounds and my character (or Arana) crying of pain. Looks like a bug to me cause SPOILERS
ReplyDeleteSPOIIILEEERS
when you get in by sneaking, Kurt closes the cell door trapping you inside, so I suppose if he defeats you he does a similar scene down there.
Had the same thing happen, but by the sneaky route.
DeleteI think it's related to the dying while suffering hunger penalties that someone mentioned above.
Other than that, having a good time playing through.
Having a great time on the module so far! The only problem I've had so far is that somehow I've managed to skip the love initiation conversation for R. I had the second dream, gave some friendly responses to him, and next thing I know all his conversations act like we've confessed to each other! Not a big deal since I was going to romance him anyways, but I'd have liked to see the dialogue for the start of the romance (who knows, maybe I accidentally walked away from a conversation).
ReplyDeleteI don't think there's a confession per se. Seems like it, cos I didn't get one either. See above post about how R being capricious.
DeleteThere isn't any scheduled confession. If your approval/desire/stuff with Raze is high, he can call you his "love" in the conversation you can initiate after receiving a fortune reading. I think you can ask him why he's calling you love in that conversation. But since it could happen early or late in the module, he might not call you love in the first place. No special confessions.
DeleteMaybe worth pointing out, for debugging purposes, that the hunger penalties on resurrection problem would only be a problem when your con score (modified by any gear bonuses) happens to be an even number. If it's an odd number, loosing 1 con won't change your hit points anyway.
ReplyDeleteJust completed my second playthrough, siding with Sinallion this time. No bugs to be found with the main or any side quests!
ReplyDeleteSuch a great chapter this was!
ReplyDeleteOne minor complaint is that when you meet B again there is so many romantic talk options which made it feel a bit like my DH loved him but I didn't let her. Might well love this once I play one who do have more feelings for him.
Still had a hard time not to try and comfort him with kisses, playing a good character is hard at times!
As for bugs.
Thugs spawning in town to attack me also can go for the rats which I suppose isn't too wrong if they are hungry. They also attack the kids to the west(nice for the setting!) but after one of them got killed, talking to the other was just the same go play dialogue.
Couldn't complete the missing brother and sister quest for some reason. Could be I was snooping around at the blacksmith house but left villingly when he grabbed my arm before I got the quest. Went back after I got the quest and got the hints from oracle. Fought and lost, loved the thought I killed apprentice thoughts. Killed apprentice and looted/inspected everything, got upstairs and blacksmith isn't hostile and could talk normaly to him. I leave him and go back but can't turn in the quest so go back and kill blacksmith too but it don't change anything.
And finally while doing the rescque mission for the cult Arana suddenly came running and started talking with me as if I where somewhere else with her with me in the party.
Got really into it so I'll make more DH's and start from the prelude again even though I do have a couple of old ones that completed chapter 1 still..
Since we are discussing spoilers here and since you mentioned comforting B with kisses...is there a way for it *not* ending with sex?
DeleteNot that my demonheart had something against it but my inquiring mind has to know :P
SPOILERS
DeleteI re-checked that now. In the nice girl scenario (the one where Brash acts kinda wimpy), you get an opportunity to stop kissing him and tell him to get up. If you keep doing it, well, sorry. Rapist nature has to kick in. xD
Haha, thanks for the info, that's the Brash I know and want to keep for demonheart :P
DeleteAnd once again - your characters are simply awsome, from companions to NPCs you pass along the way - it's so much fun, it really shows you enjoy creating them :)
I thought you might get away with it with some groping at worst but I did not dare try it as I hadn't saved in quite a while.
DeleteCrazy to go trough a beta run using only quick save but I managed perfectly thanks to how stable you made it!
Wish I had saved before that scene though because it will be awhile before I get there again as a nice girl. Hopefullly anyway.. I have a hard time to be anything but nice in most scenarios so guess I'm not that great of a roleplayer. =P
Both B&R are so irresisteble in chpter 2! A not as much but think I might have missed some talks with her, coming running to me in the one instance where she was not allowed to follow me and all that. Still loved to learn more about her and the only thing I feel missing is what will happen in chapter 3!
Sin I'll have to check out more, main plan was to go with him but then the cult did mostly good as far as I could tell even with that little evidence.
Too bad I mostly sleep these days but at least I get to spend all my awake time in this awesome dream world. If only I had the money I'd pay to keep as much of the irl world from bothering you as possible. ♥
I would totally fund this if I could, too!
DeleteAlready hankering for Ch III (aren't I greedy!).
Thank you, Lamb.
Moar bugs
ReplyDelete- If you summon Raze to prevent Python rape, you can talk to him via the amulet despite having him right next to you otw back to Ravage
- Arana's talk when you find (and pick up) the abandoned baby didn't activate for me (or at least, I'm guessing she has one, as Raze did)
My mistake, Arana's talk did fire up on my next playthrough (though not on my first two, hm).
DeleteI was in the camp of you not releasing it until you think it's ready, regardless how impatient some of us are to finally play it. But since it is out there, I will most likely go ahead and try it out. What the worst that could happen? It's not like pirates are going to kidnap me and take me away or anything. ;)
ReplyDeleteAnd here's hoping too everything in your real life gets sorted out to your complete satisfaction. Take good care and thanks again for all your hard work on this project!!
The pirates are totally harmless (much to your disappointment) :P
DeleteYes...'tis a pity about the pirates. ;)
DeleteBut I hope to get a chance to play sometime this weekend. Probably won't get through it, but will at least attempt to start the mod in the next day or so.
That is if I am not being chased by sex crazed farmers now instead. ;)
Hey Lamb,
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely loved this chapter, and everything seemed to go great for me throughout the game. I only had some minor problems and mostly with Brash. Throughout Rivera's place his "armor" kept disappearing and he'd be running around naked in a cape. I had to go into his inventory and take his armor off and put it back on again to get it to show up. I ended up giving him the Scarcewall Armor and Longsword, but after I pulled him up from the cliff both the armor and sword had disappeared from his inventory and he had two copies of the Rivera armor instead. I reloaded a couple of times to see if that fixed it, but nope, the armor and sword disappeared each time, so I eventually put them in my PC's inventory before he fell off the cliff and then gave them back afterwards. He didn't lose them again after that.
Also, no more bugs, but I got really confused with the temple, cursed forest, evil unicorn, all of it. I had no idea what I was supposed to be doing or looking for and it took me way too long to realize I was supposed to go back to Ravage. That was my own stupidity, but maybe some hints there would help people like me out?
I really enjoy these games and characters, and I thank you so much for continuing to make them!
Same anon as above, just wanted to add a bonus comment:
DeleteI replayed the game and didn't get the problems I mentioned before, so that must have just been something going wrong on my end and not actual bugs. But I did notice that Arana didn't comment when I picked up the baby (I've seen other people mention it so I thought I'd add my two cents) and when I gave the baby to Sinallion and he found her a home the quest didn't get marked as completed - it just stayed in my quest log as unfinished.
Still love the game. Feel I've tested it to the max now so I hope everything goes well with the actual release and good luck with everything in your real life and modding life Lamb :]
I'll get to updating the module in a few days. Real life calls. :/
ReplyDeleteScratch that - still not updated.
DeleteFor some reason, there's a bunch of purple shadows during nighttime, anyone know how to fix it?
ReplyDeleteSounds like a video card issue to me. Since nwn is so old new cards and drivers don't work all that great. First I'd try to update the video card drivers(never know) and if that don't work go and fiddle with the ingame video settings. I for instance can't get shiny water to work properly since a new video card 5 or so years ago and now have it turned off.
Deletethanks, for some reason it fixed on its own. crazy old games huh.
DeleteSo hi, sorry if my question is stupid...
ReplyDeleteI don't know if it's just me but im stuck. In the room after the lighting monsters, I talked to R and he said come to the barrier, but there's nothing there. I run around the old location and went on into the forest, but there is also nothing I can do. Did I miss something?
Can you click on the barrier? Try holding tab down to see where you're supposed to click.
DeleteYeah I tried this already there is totally nothing. Not in the room, not in other places. To the truth I just don't even see that barrier they talked about... xD
DeleteVery strange, there should be a visible barrier (looks like a magic shield) straight ahead of the chest in that room. Not sure how to help you, unfortunately.
DeleteOK, Don't know if this is a bug, but.... I finished Chapter 1 with Arana in my party, when I started Chapter 2 Raze indicates that she had to die... needless to say she is not in the game.
ReplyDeleteIf you're still having the issue, email me the character you want to play with so I can see if it didn't save properly, or if Chapter 2 is misbehaving.
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteOk, I deleted my comment because I thought I had it figured out but I really don't. I feel kind of stupid but I am utterly stuck and don't know what to do. I'm pretty sure it's not a bug, it's just me not knowing what to do but regardless, I can't move forward.
DeleteSPOILERS
I popped out into the forest and chose B over R. I then tried to head north but got killed by spiders so I came back and ran into the "small camp" and got the quest for eyes. I did that and I believe searched the area well, came back and got some potions in return. He then told me about the gem of human understanding and I went to the temple and retrieved that. After the shadows spawned I had to run out of the temple and now I have no idea where to go or what to do. I tried using the gem, I even tried using the portal stone but it takes me back to Brash's heart room and there's no way out of there either.
I would really appreciate it if someone could help me. I'm so sorry :(
:::MOARE SPOILERS:::
DeleteRemember where you found Touness in the forest? He's the guy that told you about the gem, or he's got the paper right by him about said gem. This is the area where you appear after the teleporter, the area where you have to choose B or R. Right by Touness, there is a way to get back to Ravage. There's a map marker, and the area to click is rather small, but it's there. West, slightly South West is where you want to look.
Thank you so much for the response! I will be trying this as soon as I get home from work, you're awesome and I appreciate it!
DeleteHey Lamb, loved the chapter.
ReplyDelete***SPOILER**
Not sure if these are bugs, but after I try to make a deal with Kurts (the dwarf) it doesn't seam to matter if I pick up the rotten amulet before or after trying to make the deal to get the armor, when trying to tell Olivia that the bodys are on a beach, it will only let me tell the truth and say that Kurts killed them.
Also, after siding with Raz againts Brash, but telling him I wont eat the heart, Raz first gets angry, then calms down kisses the DH, and then acts like I sided with Brash saying something like "you and your low-life getting together over my bleeding body" probbaly didn't quote it right, am very tried as I stayed up to late playing this lol
But other then that, no bugs, - no Arana this time around.
You only can tell the lie if you have the two rotten amulets. Search all the bodies!
DeleteBTW, i think that the dialog it's alright, because Brash will come alive again, and, you know, Raz loves you and he doesn't want a obstacle in his way to you!!
Thanks! found it :)
DeleteOh I didn't was just a little confused, but after retying it made more sense :)
So when I rescue Old Aristo while working with the Cult, I get the quest update telling me to re-negotiate the deal with the Prophet, but the prophet doesn't have any new conversation options.
ReplyDeleteIs it a bug or am I missing something?
Meaning yr back in Ravage after (spoilers) encountering Rivera and Brash? Then yes, you should be able to tell the Prophet that Aristo is dead and he'll tell you whats next.
DeleteGuys, it seems i ran into a bug... SPOILERS
ReplyDeleteI just finished the game and at any moment I had to choose between R or B. Actually B almost didn’t appear on my game.
I don’t know which part of the game this scene would take part (as it didn’t happen to me), but after complete Rivera’s maze and face her with the abominations I used her portal and ended in a room with B’s heart… when I opened a conversation with it all my options were to eat it….
I didn’t even know where Brash was, cause at the beginning he ran to the maze before you do and after that I didn’t encounter him anymore. Where my game collapsed?
Thank you for your hard work Lamb!!!
There is a secret room in the maze, he is hiding there.
DeleteAww :\. I was inclined to full explore the maze, but there are 'very difficult' encounters there which changed my mind about it.
DeleteI'd pick Raze anyways, but it seems i lost some drama :(.
Ty mr anonymous!
But...you should not be able to finish the maze without Brash. Did you use a console command to open the locked door in there? Only he has the key to open one of those locked doors - the other is yours.
DeleteSo that's why everyone found B but me lol. But i didn't cheat, no, i was able to complete the maze alone, the only locked door there i could unlock using my key.
DeleteMaybe it is somehow possible to kill B off before that? Don't know, that question is Lamb's to anwser :)
DeleteI didnt find Brash either :/ Maze completed without problemz
DeleteIt seems like the locked door could be bashed, which wasn't intended... You were supposed to find Brash behind the secret door, first. I'll look it up when I get to updating this thing :S
DeleteI think I might have discovered a possible typo: In Ravage, when Brash talks to the Shouter, the PC can break their conversation and command the knight to stop arguing with the man "this instance". The phrase is actually "this instant", meaning a moment in time. Otherwise, everything went well and bug-free (or at least I have encountered them and could not spot any, which means it was probably nothing of consequence). Great module again! :)
ReplyDeletePossible spoilers follow:

As for theories, I do actually have one: I don't think the Demonspawn we have been talking to all this time is actually Raze. He seems to be an impostor: the child-demon that appears in the Demonheart's dreams is still begging for her help, and Raze decides to block nightmares from her with no apparent reasons but a rather feeble explanation - him being a liar is one way to explain it.

End of possible spoiler. I do wonder, though, if other players agree... or have I just created a worthy successor of "Varys is a merling". Tehee.
Looking at the evidence in the module, I'm pretty convinced of your theory. It's explains a lot of things that are implausible otherwise (like his maturity) and I haven't seen anything that directly contradicts it (in fact, I saw one occasion where Arana could say something to directly contradict it, or confirm it, but says she doesn't know).
DeleteI'm definitely curious as to what the portal settings from the dream are for.
Hello Lamb! Just finished the module, took me one evening) Haven't encounter any bugs so far (trying to romance with Raze and being nice to everyone). The only issue was Arana not ressurecting, but I used your tip with Debug mode, and everything was fine again.
ReplyDeleteAlso haven't find Brash after taking his heart, but I assume it totally goes with the plot.
Congratulations on this great creative release! Looking forward to replaying with other choices)
You're supposed to find Brash after getting his heart. If you portal back to Rivera's corpse he should be waiting for you and initiate a dialogue.
DeleteOh. I only found his stuff ('remains'). Hmm, I'll revisit this scene, hope there's some saves left...
DeleteWell, I replayed, this time Brash appeared (same choice with the heart). Guess it was a bug after all.
DeleteI really enjoyed this chapter, only bug was the loop deaths from dying while hungry, There were a few odd things, may be intended but not sure so I wanted to bring them up.
ReplyDeleteSome traps/locks give xp some don't.
You can talk the dwarf into selling to you once, but then the option is gone.
When you lose, then regain your gear, your bags aren't there
Hunger/eating in dreams, just seems kinda odd.
Lamb, you should consider opening a discussion/bug forum for your mods - would be easier to read through all of this :P
ReplyDeleteHi! I am enjoying your story! I just did one playthrough and a few things happened that may be bugs or maybe I did something out of order. SPOILERS:
ReplyDeleteTwice when the DH was in the cultist outfit and a sailor talked to her, the black fadeout cloud arrived, but there was no teleporting to the empty warehouse. I had to click on the sailor again and run through the dialogue again in order for the teleporting to happen. Other event was at Kurt's. When exploring the basement in stealth mode, the scene in the cell did not trigger. When I left the basement and Kurt spotted me, the dialogue box appeared, but then Kurt started attacking me right away, so I could not pick another response. Eventually, I had to exit, come back in, and walk around normally in the basement in order for the cell to close on Arana and the DH. Arana did die for good when fighting the unicorn, but I was able to resurrect her with your walkthrough.
I loved the scene with Brash and Raze; it was lots of fun! Right after the scene played out though, Arana's dialogue about the DH sleeping with cultists fired and that was really strange. Somehow I missed the trigger in the town, but I'm not sure why it fired then.
Thank you for all your hard work! I'm going to try the mod with another character to see what I missed :)
There's game stopping bag in witch dungeon; No way to open the first locked doors if you're not Rogue/Bard as they can't be bashed.
ReplyDeleteThere are two entrances. Yours, and Brash's. You must've gone through the latter.
DeleteThis chapter was absolutely amazing. Just... flat-out amazing. I just finished it, but am definitely going to have to play it a few more times to fully explore it and catch what I missed if you decide to approach things from different angles (while I wait with everyone else, eagerly but patiently, for the distant chapter 3). But damn, this chapter (and the entire module!) is incredible!

I didn't experience many bugs through my first playthrough. Someone mentioned Arana's (possible) conversation not triggering when you pick up the abandoned baby and the same thing happened for me. I picked up the baby and Arana seemed to have nothing to say, even when I spoke with her with it in my arms. I assumed it was a little bug, since from what we know of Arana so far, she'd probably be the first to pipe up about an abandoned kid in her hometown.
I didn't have any other troubles, personally.
Also, I don't believe I've ever had this much difficulty trying to decide between romance options in a game, particularly between Brash and Raze. They're both... so... good!

Thank you so much for all this hard work, Lamb! Your work is absolutely appreciated and so very, very admired.
It just occurred to me to mention something else. It wasn't a bug (nor was it necessarily a big deal), but it did confuse me for a little bit and I ended up reloading about two or three times to make sure I was seeing things right.

When you're with Brash in Rivera's hideout (during the final portion) and Brash begins to die after every fight with Rivera, it caught me a little off-guard. Obviously, I figured it was part of the game, given -how- he kept dying (the descriptions), but what threw me off was that he never mentioned anything about how Rivera must be being a bitch and stabbing his heart whenever she teleported back and forth, but his automatically generated comments would pop up -- the stuff he'd say if he died in normal circumstances, like "Fuckin' brat, and after all I do for you," and "You'd better not be laughing." So he'd die and I'd be like, oh no Brash! And then he'd wake up like he's pissed at me, like I'd let him die on purpose! So, I don't know... I honestly think that part is truly awesome, because it wrenched my heart seeing him helpless and dying like that, but maybe he could -say- something about it being Rivera? He doesn't need to obviously because that part of the game is emotionally powerful enough already (and I don't want to make suggestions that mean more work for you), but I dunno! I figured I'd mention it!

And thank you again, because I literally can't kiss your butt enough!
I tried to disable his resurrection comments in that battle. Strange O.o
DeleteOh! Then I guess my suggestion unintentionally turned into another tiny bug report. :/ Yeah, it happened every time he resurrected in my playthrough. (As if he honestly needed to make my good, sweet demonheart girl feel any worse!)
DeleteThough I haven't heard anyone else mention it, so it may have been just my playthrough?
People don't know when something doesn't work as intended if it doesn't break the game. :S
DeleteWas first after his second or even third death that I got that he didn't die from the combat itself. Then he said "you better not be laughing" and gave me a laugh attack, while my dh was a bit worried instead.
DeleteJust for reference, I did experience this as well.
DeleteAlso after the deaths if you spoke to him his romantic options were gone (you know the ones where if you click on him you can choose "kiss him" and such) and he'd just kind of growl "what?" at you. I thought I broke the romance at first but once we got to the bit with Raze those conversations came back
This happened in my playthrough too.
DeleteBut I thought it was quite apparent that Rivera was behind it after the second death.
What I found funny was that I had to wait for Brash to have at least 2 rounds till resurrection before Riv appeared in the next portal. I spent lots of time just running around wondering where she was (but yes, I understood in the end that she went back her hideout whenever she was near death)
I too experienced this (Brash making his resurrection comments) and did not realize it was a bug.
DeleteFirst of all, thank you, Lamb, for this module - I love it. And the choice between Raze and Brash it's an impossible one:) I am curious though, are you planning to release Chapters 3 and 4 together or will Chapter 3 be a separate release? Congratulations and best of luck:) Deina
ReplyDeleteI'll decide when I start seriously working on the next module.
DeleteBig fan! Really enjoying so far. So a spoiler question:
ReplyDeleteI burnt Brash in the last chapter. Is it at all possible to reconcile and team up with him? I keep on trying to convince him, but he always attacks me...
Thanks!
It's impossible if you burned him. Fire makes scars and injuries that don't heal, so that's something he couldn't get over.
DeleteHaha woops! Well good to know for my next play through then!
DeleteAwesome mod! I love the atmosphere in this game series, makes it feel truly epic. One thing that concerns me is that youre making way too much trouble for yourself by allowing the player to have so many choices early on SPOILERS(killing brash/Ariana) forcing you to make several sets of dialogue for great portions of the game.
ReplyDeleteI myself manipulated and killed brash because I felt it made sense to my character, even though I liked the dynamic he had with her. Now I feel in some sense that im missing out on a lot of content. Same goes with ariana even though I dont like having her around I feel like im breaking the game by sending her off whenever I can, and eating her heart is still a bit too vicious for my taste.
I couldnt find any bugs other than disarming traps did not give any xp, perhaps that was intentional. Other than that, informing the bard of what kind of misscheif the cult has asked you to do results in nothing, perhaps you need to complete the assignments before telling him?
Other than that, in the completed edition you should consider replacing some of the dialogue such as "MUHAHAHA" and "GAH" with sound effects and brackets [Evil laughter] or such, but I suspect that you have that in the making.
Anyways, amazing mod! I hope you enjoyed making it as much as I enjoyed playing it =) Cant wait to see what you have in store for us!
Umm.. Is it possible to defeat those shadows in bonespawn's temple, or is his curse is really eternal? :)
ReplyDeleteYeah, the shadows can't be defeated.
DeleteExcellent mod, Lamb! Every episode has been great, but I enjoyed this one the most for its love conflicts with Brash and Raze. Everything was very well done, and I can see why it took so long to make.
ReplyDeleteSome of this has been repeated already, but here were my bugs I ran into:
*SPOILERS*
BUGS:
1.) After getting captured by Kurt, I still hear fighting going on, which interrupts the conversation trying to take place. I learned dismissing Arana before getting caught resolves this.
2.) Before getting caught by Kurt, you can only access his store once.
3.) In Bekka's Inn/Tavern, when the PC is exiting the resting room, she is facing the wrong way, which makes leaving with W,A,S,D rather cumbersome, because the PC keeps reenteing the room. I have to flip the camera around and click on the ground to avoid reentering the room.
-------------------------
OPTIONAL IMPROVEMENTS:
1.) Have an option to tell Arana to stay where she is if you want her to leave your party. Instead, if you want to send her back to her house, you have to backtrack to get her.
2.) This may be a controversial one, but remove the food/eating system. Not only are people experiencing bugs with it, but it also breaks the immersion. For example, you can eat in your dreams, Bekka's tavern/inn has unlimited cheap food despite Ravage being starved, and the food never spoils. I'm surprised a Demonheart needs to eat in the first place. What I did was I just loaded up on food at Bekka's, which makes the eating system trivial. If you want to keep the system, my advice is jack up the prices on Bekka by 8x and give her limited food supply. Sprinkle food hidden throughout the mod to compensate, or have people reward you with it.
3.) The fight against Rivera after Brash passes out was insanely difficult. I first had to bait out the bull for a 1vs1 (easy enough). Next, I baited out all her spells by running in and out of her line of sight. Her stoneskin spell was a bitch, as it has insane damage absorption. It was basically a battle of attrition by abusing the A.I., lol.
BUG REPORT - Forced to eat Brash's Heart
ReplyDeleteAfter defeating Rivera and shutting down the hexagram thing I was able to take Brash’s heart, teleport back to the other room and give it to him. I then reloaded my game to before I took his heart, (I like to reload and explore my options) and did the hexagram puzzle again. Only this time I only had options to eat Brash’s heart, with my only choices being how I felt about it. I tried going back to a save before I beat Rivera (but after brash died) and I also tried rebooting the game, but I was still limited to eating the heart.
Btw, I love how Brash gets so easily jealous at every sex act the protagonist tries to do, lol.
ReplyDelete*SPOILERS*
My favorite part is when he gets jealous at the protagonist sucking off the statue of Thayn. He's like, WTF!? And pulls the protagonist back by her hair.
I really like the relationship between DH and Arana. I am looking forward to seeing how that develops!
ReplyDeleteOne thing I have to admit is that I was kind of expecting/hoping for either Arana or DH (or both) being forced to, or at least strongly encouraged, to spread the crazy cult's 'free love' around.
I'm also wondering, are there any love/relationship/sex scenes with Arana in this chapter? I haven't noticed any in the first playthrough. It's fine if there aren't of course (not everyone can be as... fast as Brash) but it's hard to know what is intended and what is a bug the first time through!
Deletepretty sure theres not.
DeleteHi. I defeated Kurt but Arana died. Now she stays dead, instead of getting back up?
ReplyDeleteOtherwise no bugs so far.
/TMZuk
I've encountered two bugs:
ReplyDelete- some conversations with Raze and Arana sometimes don't trigger (Arana's about Rivera and Raze's about Brash's heart in Chapter 1)
- Infliltration Quest marked as incomplete after entering inn despite of siding with Sinallion
Should it be possible to go through this series all alone without anyone (besides that one demon character who seems mandatory so far) helping? I've tried both ways, and it was definitely easier for me to keep doing the "good" thing by taking everyone with me rather than kill them for some experience point rewards. Mainly because of both of those fights against rivera, and now that she's out of the way, there are a few more people to contend with who are just like her, only stronger. I haven't found anything so far that would make an evil loner playstyle viable yet which I find is discouraging.
ReplyDeleteI've always believed that "evil" doesn't necessarily equate "dumb." Chaotic Evil shouldn't be another way of saying Stupid Evil. The DH girl isn't super-powerful and it's a slow process to becoming more powerful. Whether or not the DH girl particularly wants said companions, the simple fact of the matter is that she's stronger with them. That's not to say that she has to treat them necessarily well or particularly care about their well-being -- an evil DH can just as easily rationalize using these people as tools for the time being in order to further her own goals and ensure her own well-being, while possibly planning to get rid of them whenever the opportunity presents itself. That's as evil, if not arguably -more- evil, than stabbing them at the first opportunity, which merits considerably less in the grand scheme of things for the DH.
DeleteI suppose it may depend on how one views what "evil" is, though.
I was under the impression that Vao and Jade got as strong as they are by hunting down demon hearts to eat. Seems that the player won't get anywhere near Razes level, let alone Thaynes or Jades at the rate the mod has been handing out rewards
DeleteThen there is the constant betrayal and mistrust. Taking both of these things into consideration, going it alone doesn't seem like a dumb idea.
It's obvious that they're "hunters," yes... but, aside from that, [Spoiler] and [Spoiler] have also clearly decided that working together is superior to working alone (and they're arguably evil themselves) and, in addition to -that-, it's highly apparent that they've had some major combat training -- the kind of combat training that the DH girl, who is nothing but a common girl, hasn't had the opportunity to learn even a fraction of. We've no idea how many hearts these two have eaten -- it could be have been dozens by the time they're introduced, so the meager two that the DH girl has the potential to consume would still be nothing in comparison.
DeleteAs for betrayal and mistrust, yeah. Those are legitimate reasons for the DH to not want to trust anyone. But it, again, comes down to survival, I think -- whether the DH girl is good or evil, common sense dictates, again, that unless she plans to hide under a rock forever (which would mean there'd be no purpose to the module's story, since she's clearly being swept up into matters far bigger than her own life now), she needs to figure out means to stay alive and strengthen herself... which is a slow, complex and conflicted process, but one that'll likely leave her smarter, more cunning and more powerful in the process.
I personally wouldn't really believe in the story if she suddenly went from "village girl" to "super demonheart saiyan" in the course of a month. Most of the strong people in the module are those who've been at it for a while now. Even R is a baby demonspawn up against mighty demonspawn. I think it's all part of the challenge.
>>> it was definitely easier for me to keep doing the "good" thing by taking everyone with me rather than kill them for some experience point rewards.
DeleteThat's a good point actually. In the part where...
SPOILERS
Arana is shackled and the PC can kill her for her heart, the PC only gets about 500 XP. That to me feels weak. I should think maybe 2000 XP should be the minimum. The 500 XP is so small, it's definitely better to take Arana with you than kill her.
Are all the other experience rewards higher if your on your own? I read just now that in the NWN original campaign that solo players level up faster and was wondering if DH follows that rule too. If it does, then raising xp might be a bad idea. In NWN campaign you get
Delete100% exp for going alone with a 20% penalty per follower
So thats
80% with a henchmen, 64% with a henchmen/summon, 51% with a henchmen/summon/familiar, etc.
So maybe the level progression is a lot more complicated than I'd first thought? Having a much slower rate of leveling up along with the risk of relying on people who might or might not be supportive of you seems seems balanced enough, and if experience works the way I think it does, it might be tough indeed deciding if I should let my allies live or not, which is good because I like tough decisions.
I think you get less experience in fights by default the more companions you have, but that might be messed up in this case since I set the XP scale to a low value. Maybe I will re-adjust the XP rewards in this module. The big bonus you get for Brash's heart is there to compensate for his absence, but it might not be enough. As for Arana, I think I put the same value from Chapter 1, which might have been a mistake.
DeleteI don't see much fun in playing a loner girl. The potential for betrayal is fun to me. :D But if someone despises a companion so much, I don't want to force them to keep that companion (like stupid Khelgar and Neeshka in NWN2! I wanted to kill them so badly!)
Just some questions and suggestions...
ReplyDeleteDo we ever find out who left the hairbrush for the PC in chapter 1?
Is there an option to return Arana's bracelet to her in chapter 1? If so, I missed it, and it's still in my inventory in chapter 2. Maybe you could add a conversation where it could be returned to chapter 2 like Brash's sword.
At Arana's house, when you rest the conversation with Arana about her bed pops up. I was thinking that adding a reply there for people who like Arana but who don't want to romance her might be good; the current options are cold or cosy. Something like "we're friends, we can share a bed" without the cuddling maybe?
I was also surprised that there was no conversation with Brash when first returning to Ravage. I thought since he'd been tortured and starved that he'd at least want to stop somewhere and eat, or take some food from the PC or something. Just a thought.
You might be disappointed about the brush. I wrote something about it, but I don't think it's in Chapter 2.
DeleteI will consider adding some more content for Arana - nothing major, but I feel like she's lacking in conversations when compared to the other two.
I really like the module :)
ReplyDeleteI found some bugs, next to those that have already been reported (like the Kurt-cellar cutscene not triggering, or Kurt not selling items if I talk to him 2nd time etc.)
- If I solve the "baby" quest with the help of Sinallion, then the quest is not marked as solved, and is still in my journal
- I noticed that if I have the "bigger boobs" body type, my breasts "shrink" during the Brash sex scene, after he takes off the PCs panties, then they "grow back" after the sex is done, and I wear my panties again
- If I side with Sinallion, and enter the inn after I came back from Rivera's den, I get the "Sinallion disappeared, because I was away for too long" journal entry. But ofc Sinallion has not disappeared, he is at the stables, waiting for me
- After R. tells me to escape from the cutists den, because the hunter is there, and I go out, Arana always ends up being stuck in the cultist's entry doorway
Also: Is it possible to be friends-only with R? I can't chose between him and Brash, so I will do 2 playthroughs, but so far I was unable to be friends-only with him. He always ended up romancing me. I don't want to be a jerk with him, but it seems being friendly automatically starts the romance :(
Hey :)
ReplyDeleteI've played beta of chapter 2, but when my chara is supposed to have a "race" with Brash after she was imprisoned and the race is actually began... well, Brash is nowhere to be found anyway and I'm not sure if I should meet him on the first level. But as I progressed, the door before the place with giant scorpion are requiring a key... and I had no key, so I had to bash it open which took a lot of time, so I'm not sure if it's something I had done or it's just a bug.
Second thing is when I reach Rivera and she's locked. There was supposed to be a script loading right after I go to the gates(near the entrance to the level with her), but it didn't it loaded when I finished all abominations in the level and went a circle...
But mod is still great, even though I wasn't sure what to do at some points :)
Brash can be found in a secret room on the first part of the "race". A message should pop up that says something like "there's a secret door here, someone else found it first". Someone else had this problem, if you read the comments above you should find the answer.
DeleteThat was a great chapter, looking forward to seeing how the story develops from there.
ReplyDeleteSPOILERS
I have to admit that I was really hoping that helping Darcy would backfire and he would try to blackmail Arana (or the PC, or both) for some sex before letting them go talk to the prophets.
Some minor thing in my playthrough:
ReplyDeleteGreen rectangles in iron mine - in the corridor when you enter Mori's cave. Looks like some triggers, but I was not in DebugMode. (Sided with bard.)
Those are traps set by a friendly character, they won't damage you when you walk over them, only your enemies. I sided with the cult at that time so I knew what character placed them there. However I do remember seeing them trough a wall without having yet explored that side of the cave, which made me worry for a second.
DeleteWhat an intriguing story... Keep the good work, Lamb!
ReplyDeleteMy game ran smoothly, except in some areas the map was black, only map markers showing. If memory serves, it was Infernal forest and the Cursed forest (with portal and with unicorn as well).
Very interesting story, so far! I love the depth and life you've given all the characters. It's hard not to care about them. And the sheer amount of choice given to the player character over the course of the campaign is staggering! The visual atmosphere is also beautiful, and I love the use of music to enhance the mood of certain scenes. Dream sequences are brilliantly surreal and unsettling, especially - A+. I wish there were more of them!
ReplyDelete[SPOILERS AHEAD]
CH II Bugs(?):
- During the cult quest to find the missing brother and sister, there's a hiccup with Arana not resurrecting after the battle with Kurt. Using the debug code fixes it.
- The hunger system remains active even in the dream sequences, which breaks immersion a bit.
- When eating Brash's heart, my character receives no experience. It seems like she's supposed to?
- As mentioned above, the mini-map is black in some areas, displaying only map markers, even after fully explored. This is mostly in the Cursed Forest and its offshoots and in the Forest of Flesh in Inferno.
Suggestions & Comments:
- Playing a "good/nice" character seems to net you a lot of Lawful alignment shifts through dialogue (in the Prologue and Ch. I as well as Ch. II); many of which don't make sense to me. They tend to be when choosing kind or humble dialogue options that don't strike me as particularly Lawful - though telling the bald truth and following rules certainly should, just being kind or respectful isn't necessarily always a Lawful act. Furthermore, I've not noticed any ways to gain Chaotic alignment shifts in dialogue while playing a good character (by lying or bluffing or saying bizarre things, for example - or through actions like stealing things). Will be playing again to check. Being that I'm playing as a Bard, I currently worry that I'll become too Lawful to keep leveling!
- I definitely agree with the above comment that some "verbal sound effects" (like the MUAHAHA laugh) might pack more dramatic punch if described in bracketed narrative. Unless it's supposed to be funny!
- There are a couple of minor grammatical mistakes and places where the incorrect words are used (someone mentioned one above, I think). I'll try to go through and find them all to list, here! They're pretty rare and nothing major, though. :)
Overall, I can't wait to see more of this story! I'm definitely invested in the plot and all the wonderful characters! I especially love your take on Neutral Evil in Raze - so often, you see people write evil characters so they have no depth, or make them too "soft" to really be called evil. This is a refreshing change of pace. Arana is a great take on a Neutral character, too! She's very endearing, and it's hard not to want to be a good friend/lover to her after all she's been through. I also like that Sin's a "good" character, but also just a little bit slimy. XD It's a good example of how even alignment isn't really simple.
(Oops, this comment is way too long. Sorry!)
Hi, I know this is a necro but Ive only just started playing the modules after finishing Demonheart VN and Hunters (which are excellent) so could someone please please help me find Brash in chapter 2 of the modules? I've looked all over Ravage :( I rescued him from the poison room in Rivera den in the last chapter and haven't seen him since. Is there no hope of finding him? I've no idea where else to look or what quests to initiate in order to get him back. I hope a kind soul can help me with an answer as I've been at this for 2 days now and still no sign of Brash...
ReplyDeleteProgress the main storyline and you’ll find him, I was just the same I feel your pain.
