Early Access

Hey guys, I just finished sending the first version of the visual novel's Chapter 1 to the early access backers. I forgot to write on the campaign... check the spam folder if you didn't receive it.

Of course the estimated deadline was breached, but the early access is still earlier than the official release. :D

How relevant is this cat anyway?
I've been so busy, I didn't want to write about it, because if you heard what's been happening in my life, you would have thought the game would come out even later. Or perhaps I should give you a hint. Recently I've been comparing myself to Orchid and I was scared for my life. But I survived. :D

  1. Just finished the alpha...it was remarkably polished! Honestly, it felt like an official release. I only had one issue when doing the first anagram. At first it wasn't moving the letters to where I clicked, but it fixed itself after a bit of random clicking. The issue did not appear again for the remaining anagrams. I will be sure to give an update if I find any other issues to help the QA process.

Beyond the technical side, I was just blown away by everything. The mouse cursor, the icons, the art, the writing, the music. Everything was just perfect. It was nostalgic to the modules, but also had many new and exciting twists. I just can't get over how perfect it is. The wait for future chapters is going to be torture!

Thank you you so much for your hard work and efforts! Especially when you have had real life issues.

    1. Thanks for reporting. I'm not sure what's up with the anagram letters, but I hear people would find it more intuitive if the letters could be dragged, so that's something I'll work on.

  2. Just finished the alpha too:) It's marvelous, very charming arts, so cozy ^__^ really good work, amazing! And the music -- oh, it has brought me a lot of nostalgic moments from the mod)) And I like changes, it makes feel like there's two stories: the same old story from the mod and at the same time wow, the new one. Chance is great, I mean it, my favorite:D Well, eagerly waiting for the next chapter.

And there's a little bug: when I start a new game a second time (after the first run), at the beginning the mother wears the luxury pink dress instead of the shabby one (like it was through the first run).

Thank you for your work and congratulations on a bundle of joy!:)

    1. Thanks for reporting. Mother just sneaked that dress past me, huh? :)

  3. I certainly did not expect to be impressed by anything but your writing considering your low budget. But this is the best looking VN I have seen so far and I have at least spent a few hundred hours playing these type of games.

Story feel more fleshed out than in the mod and the morality system seem interesting but as far as I can tell it has no effect in this first chapter.
I was not sold on the art(good but did not speak to me) when you did post some pictures way back but in the game the style just brought it all to life.

I had some odd performance issues with the 64bit version anytime an item would get on screen, letter from Orchid/amulet/Feline letter and so on. System would go from 0% to 20% cpu usage but the demonheart exe(also 4 of these tend to be running anytime I start the game?) would remain at 0-3%. Once the item was gone from screen system would go back to 0% and everything would be fine. During that there would be a second or two delay on anything I did.
Tried switching off ambient animations but that did not change anything except removing the nice effects.
There is also an oddly high strain on my gpu(7970) with a 10-25% usage in window mode(1080p) and 25-35% on 4k full screen with spikes to 70% during items being shown. So clearly some issue with 4k and would normally say there was not enough computing power just that 75% cpu and 30% gpu power where still left untouched.
Moved the game to my ssd just to try but no change and then just to be crazy I tried a virtual ram disk with read/writes of 8500+ mb/s(20x faster than my ssd) just to test and oddly enough it seem'd to make the slowdown ½-1 second less than the 2 or so on my mechanical/ssd drives.
I would be fine if this do not get fixed but might be worth looking into as most people might sit on 4k monitors when all chapters in your story are done.

Thanks again for the great work and hope this did not become too much of a wall of text.

    1. Thank you for writing!

The alignment system for now changes a few lines of the narration, but I'm hoping to use it more.

What's happening with the items must be the blur applied to the background. I'm guessing on a higher resolution it has more to compute. I'm thinking about solving this by removing the current blur effect and just adding static images of blurred backgrounds.

  4. Huh my comment seem to have disappeared.
It posted just fine and showed up but 10-30 minutes later and it's gone.
Did it get deleted for cluttering this area with technical issues with the game or did something go wrong and I should post it again?

  6. First of all, congratulations!! <3

Secondly, this was fantastic, even as a beta. Seriously the art style, animation and writing was all top notch. I lost my shit meeting Chance when I realised who she was, and lost my shit again with Brash's scene in the prison (huge fangirl moment, I was definitely not expecting that but oh boy was I stoked). So well done, I loved it all. I also really enjoyed learning more about the background of how Bright and Orchid came to be acquainted as well.

Oh and the addition of the kitty. Can't forget the kitty. I hope he's okay.

A few bug reports would be that the character models disappeared sometimes during the dialogue sequences, and the background music would disappear at random intervals also. I used the 64 bit version if that helps at all. But it's only a beta and these things are to be expected :) Phenomenal job, this was definitely worth waiting for. Can't wait for the official release! So exciting.

  7. BRASH OMNOM!!! (flips her shit)

COUGH Um anyways, I loved it! Only bugs encountered were the music occasionally vanishing. I played the 64bit version. I am so happy to get to play it, and it surpassed every expectation I had. Your writing has come miles since you made the original mod, and it was really good to start with! I was nervous about the art style but in game everything looked perfect and I have zero complaints. The backgrounds were absolutely stunning, and the music (when it didn't glitch out and vanish) was beautiful as it ever was. I look forward to future installments!

  8. Hey, do any of you remember how exactly the music issue happened? Did the music suddenly stop before the track would change, or did the same song stop and start again? Any minimizing or losing focus of the game screen?

    1. It would occur a lot if I reloaded a save to make a different dialogue choice. Character models would also disappear when I did this too. Personally if I left the game running without progressing (taking too long admiring the artwork or deciding on a line of dialogue) it would play out and then go completely quiet until I progressed past that part onto another scene.

    2. Okay, I think I found the problem with loading, but I haven't yet found a way to reproduce the bug where the music won't loop. :o

    1. I don't know if this is the same issue, but IIRC, right after the prison sequence (when you can check your environment with the mirror and everything), the music would start over after I finished reading the description of an object.

Hope it helps! And love the VN so far, CANNOT WAIT for the next installment :) (but your health and well-being are more important! no pressure!)
