News

Hi everyone. I hope you're enjoying Pillars of Eternity, because I won't be done with anything soon.

I wanted to write a huge announcement, but I got reminded how announcements have only gotten me in trouble and made me feel pressure. I'm still around, doing stuff. There has been a change of plans for the Demonheart series, but I'd rather not talk about it until things are a bit more certain.

Thank you all for your interest and patience. Check back in a few months, there might be real news then. :)

  1. Let me guess, Pillars of Eternity has a toolset and you are thinking of converting Demonheart to it, rather than continuing in NWN ? :D

  2. Good to hear from you, Lamb!

PoE is certainly keeping me busy, but it's no substitute ;) Should we be looking for easter eggs? I don't suppose the writer who came up with Icantha had some... inspiration?

A change of plans can be good, I look forward to seeing what new direction you've decided to take things in. I also completely agree that big announcements are not the way to go. Let your creativity be unrestrained!

I could promise I won't be checking this blog on a regular basis to make sure I haven't missed any morsels of information - but I have a policy of trying to stick to making promises I have at least some small chance of keeping. Don't let that stop you though, take the time you need and know your fans will be waiting.

    1. What's the deal with Icantha? I haven't seen that character.

    2. Icantha is a powerful, wise, and very determined woman with a scar over her heart...

The comarison isn't perfect for a number of reasons, but it's close enough to notice. You'll find her home in the NW corner of Heritage Hill, on the quest Undying Heritage. It's part of the main plot, so you won't miss her when you get there.

  3. Oh dear. "Pillars of Eternity" has claimed yet another NWN modder. So sad. :P

Maybe I should check it out myself to see what all the hubbub is about.

But otherwise, glad to hear you're still out there, Lamb! Hope at some point you can continue work on this series. I know I 'm still interested to see what happens -- and I'm sure a lot of others out there still are as well!

Just work on it when you have time and feel like doing it. If it's weeks/months/years, so be it. Am just glad you are still considering adding more to it at some point. Take your time.

Thanks for the new blog entry. Hope all is well in your life.

P.S. Even after all this time, I still hold out hope for a ADWR update as well! LOL.

    2. I didn't say Pillars is taking all my time, just hoping people are keeping themselves entertained. :D I tried playing it, had a gay party with all men and wondered if there's anything like romances in the game... cause most players are male and like all the companions I found were male as well. :D But I haven't played for that long.

      Delete
    3. Lucky I picked the girl ;-). In Game Guide you have written all companions, so I picked Wood Elf Rogue, cause there were no rogues as companions.

There are three female companions - the dwarf ranger (i don't remember her name) - she is like a combination of all dwarf girls that Oghren (from Dragon Age) ever fall in love with.

Then Avian(from godess of Birds, you can't chose that race for PC) Godlike Paladin. She is a little feisty, like a cop that doesn't want to play by the rules.

And there is also Grieving Mother - she is a psyker or something like that, and it's really complicated (and awesome). But no romances I think, and i actually didn't miss much. The story is just very sad but absolutely overwhelming and very well done. By far the best thing I played in years.

The best characters by far are both written by Avellone - Grieving Mother and Durance - you probably already have him, the priest of that WHORE Magran ;-D

I finished the game two days ago, and gonna start another playthrough, it' a real masterpiece.

BTW - I wish you luck and thanks for putting up info.

  4. Oh change sounds both exciting and sad at the same time. Whatever form it takes I am sure that I will love it but would miss it if the nwn mod is done for all the same.

Have fun with Pillars but I just don't have enough energy to play much these days, makes them last allot longer though!

Depending on how much time you need for your studies you might consider Patreon for a little added money and morale boost on your project.

  5. Like someone already said, no need for big announcements and no need to go into depth about what you may or may not have planned - better, as they said, to keep it vague in case you'd like to change things up halfway through! I'm sure that the majority of us are just happy to have the occasional update to know you're doing well and that you're still working on Demonheart, no matter how quickly it's coming along or not. We know you've got a life to lead and we're just grateful you're putting in what time and effort you can into making this series!

As for the impatient naysayers, eh... ignore 'em. Your priority is to yourself first and the game second. We can wait! And we shall wait! Gladly! :D

Hope that life is treating you well, Lamb. ...and I'll admit, I have no idea what Pillars of Eternity even is. >_> That said, I'm way behind. I haven't even played Inquisition yet. I guess that means I'll have things to do, at least!

  11. I'm always a bit worried when I see the sentence "change of plans" by a modder, not because he/she is not entitled to that (change of plans may always happen, and artistically speaking, it's good to have new ideas, modder has to be entertained too!), but because last time I heard a sentence like that, Andarian was announcing he would drop the sanctum series completely in order to dedicate himself fully to writing the novels (and, as amazing as that was, I still regret not being able to finish the series...).
I do wish you best of luck in all your endeavours, artistic or not, of course; you're a very talented person, and you've been most kind to provide hours of entertainment for the sole reason of people having fun, I just feel like saying thank you for that and for sharing this amazing story with us.
But I would be a big hypocrite if I said I'm not hoping to see demonheart 3 one day, and the series completed (even if takes more time, more mods... or less mods, ahah :P); so while I wish you all the luck universe can muster for you, I'll still stalk the blog for news on the modules... and if anything, I'll just keep dreaming about a certain priest in Ravage and all the demon babies my character will have with him :P

    Cheers!

    1. Wait, priest in Ravage? Someone you invented or THAT priest? xD

Well, your comment got me a little worried. I'm also dropping the MODULE series to work on something else. I guess Andarian saw no future in NWN. Times change :/

  12. Two questions:
1.If you are working on Ch3, does that mean that the Ch2 in Vault is the finished version? It is still marked as beta and it cannot be started right from end of Ch1...
2.It is possible to change voiceset used by Arana to the one in Ch1? The current voice was used for Myra in ADWR and everytime Arana speaks, I remember Myra instead. I know it is my problem, but for the sake of uniqueness and consistency of your wonderful characters, please change it...
And thank you for such a wonderful mod. Beautiful and atmospheric scenery, creepy dungeons, deep characters, intriguing plot... It is a rare gem, truly. I will look forward to future chapters.

    1. Well, I've played ADwR a million times through and then Demonheart and Arana's voice doesn't bother me. In fact I think it suits her. Changing a voice of a character in a module as complex as Demonheart will probably require a fair bit of work. And what of the people that are playing the modules and are comfortable with the way Arana is now? Will you take it away from them because you don't feel comfortable? In the end it is always Lamb's call anyway, she decides how characters look and sound.
That said NWN modules are very easily editable if you don't like something. You can change Arana's voice yourself via Leto or a Toolset.

  13. do you rEEEAlly need to ask module maker to change THAT for you ??
what are you 9 ? you can perfectly do it yourself.
    module is opensourced AFAIK.
you want it ? you make it. for your personal use.
if you don't want be bothered by that, then it's seem you don't want it so bad,so deal with it.

  14. Arana's voice is as lovely as she is, no need to change it.

  15. On that note regarding character's voices, boy am I glad Brash doesn't have Vico's voice though... is it weird that I absolutely hated Vico with a passion but love the hell out of Brash?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Is it weird that I love both? :)
While they share similar... ahem...features...I daresay they are quite different. I get a feeling Brash is actually kinder. As weird as it sounds O.o

      Delete
    2. I mean, I started off pretty interested in Vico due to his complexity (and I'm such a sucker for "bad boys" in fiction - Bishop, I blame you) and I did play through his romance once and thought it was sweet, but on subsequent playthroughs where I rejected him to try out other romances I really came to hate him. It felt like the PC's love was the only thing keeping the lid on that bubbling pot, if you get my meaning.

But I absolutely adore Brash and he's the only one in the Demonheart series I've ever wanted to romance. I agree with you, he definitely seems kinder in his own way, especially if you play a "nice girl". There are some definite knightly qualities about him in contrast to his... Brashness. :P

      Delete
    3. errr do you even Brash ?
i mean did you even READ his lore ??
he didn't choose this life. he was just a ordinary drunk, until Rivera kidnap him, made DH and use as lab rat. Heart changed him. even Arana told you so.
there is almost NOTHING common between Vico and Brash.
even now Brash is unstable due heart influence (he is between asshole and good old Brash The Drunk)

      Delete
    4. Pretty sure we meant demonheart!Brash (and the only Brash we've actually been exposed to thus far as the player) and Vico in general, they share a lot of similarities. I'm well aware of Brash's lore tyvm.

      Delete
    5. LOL Brashness and do you even Brash :D
It's questionable whether the heart really changed him, or if he was so angry with the whole world and had nothing to lose since he knew he was immortal. :)

  16. I just finished my second playthrough of the Demonheart series and I have to say that I'm super excited to know more about the story all over again! Dat thickening plot.

I love every companion character so far, the rivalry between them over the protagonist is just the best thing ever for my inner pervert.

I want to echo pretty much everything that Deedlit typed. Except the part about the priest in Ravage I suppose, I remember attempting to kill their 'lord' at some point. :P

Thank you so much for these blog updates too Lamb. They mean a lot when a player gets invested in a WIP.

    1. It was the ordinary large phenotype, but the torso is from PHoD's Psycho Vixen attires, I think. It doesn't transform to large.

  18. Okay, first and foremost: Hello any and all comment readers and Lamb (if by any chance you might be reading this too)!

I have got to say: I am completely in LOVE with the story, the world and the characters you have created! To me, it doesn’t feel like a module at all, it feels like an amazing „interactive book” that I just cannot put down. Or a completely separate game for which I would actually pay money. Like really. I would. It is *that* good. I have just started playing 2 days ago (I have no idea how I haven’t played this amazing series yet, I am a long time NWN player, custom modules and all), and I have just defeated Rivera in chapter 2. I wanted to wait with my comment until I’m done with this chapter as well, but I couldn’t stop myself from commenting.

This might get a little long, but I just really wanted to get this off my chest and express how I feel about your work.

I have always loved playing RPG’s, from Icewind dale 1+2 to Baldur’s Gate 1+2, Planescape:Torment, Neverwinter nights 1+2 (obviously) the Dragon Age series, the Witcher series, even non-fantasy ones, like Mass Effect and many more older and newer games.
But dearest to my heart has always been Neverwinter Nights. The original(s) had me on the edge of my seat all the way through, and I fell completely in love with the stories and characters.

Then I discovered custom modules, which gave a whole new dimension for my gaming experience. I do not think any other game has been able to inspire such amazing, elaborate, exciting outputs for people (not necessarily working in the game industry) who have the desire, the drive and passion to create worlds in the form games instead of paper. I have played almost all modules, which were on the old NWN Vault (I’m really not exaggerating) and loved many of them. But closest to my heart has always been ADWR, in its imperfect perfection. I could sing odes about this module, and I’m incredibly sad that Part 2 will most likely never be „finished” in the way Part 1 was. I mention ADWR, because Demonheart is the first module, which has come close (I dare not say surpassed yet as it is not complete and I have not experienced the full story yet) to surpassing the amazing experience, which ADWR was.

Playing Demonheart brought me back so many memories from when I used to play games and got incredibly invested in the story, not being able to stop myself from playing and wondering about the many stories within, the characters, the motives, the relationships, the backgrounds, about *everything* in these amazing worlds, which the creator allowed me to experience. Exactly how books do. I cannot praise this game enough. It has everything a good story needs: from interesting, complex characters, drama, action, suspense, an intense unpredictable plot to so much more.

I would like to express just how grateful I am to have been able to experience this game. Thank you Lamb, for sharing this world with us players and for all the time, effort and love that you have put into sharing your „vision” with everyone. This has been incredibly long and possibly boring for anyone who is reading, but I felt a need to share this with you and really, honestly thank you for this experience.

For now I can only hope that I will be able to experience the full story at one point and offer any and all support a fan might give you to help you along the way. I wish you all the best and thank you again!

(I hope I could get my „message” through, English is not my mothertongue)
