Working on Chapter 3

I don't like posting updates when I don't have anything definite to say, but seeing as the last update was in August... that's a little creepy. So no, I'm not dead, but I really had other things to take care of.

I was working on updates/bugfixes for the previous two modules, and it looks like I didn't publish them. I'll have to check that later, sorry. I keep transporting my module files between multiple computers, and there have been some complications. :S

Currently I'm merging some areas that I made a long time ago with the new Chapter 3 and rewriting NPCs where needed.

I will make a wild estimate about the module's release - spring 2015. I'm probably lying, but I know you like that. :P

Proof that I was testing the new module:

  1. Well summer is just half a year away so the wait shouldn't feel too long now. :)
Maybe I'll give the DA:I a try in the mean time, at least now you aren't forced to use origin for it.

Oh and having the same work on different computers get messy all too often.
I have ended up with the "same" files on 10 different iterations and I have no clue what is updated where and when anymore!

Merry xmas and hope the rest of the year will treat you well.

  9. Glad to hear you're still out there and continuing to work on the next chapter of your most excellent series of modules! Hope all is well with you these days.

And Merry Christmas to you and all on here as well -- hope everyone has a great holiday season!

  11. Looking forward to it!

I hope the convenient option of allowing you to choose the state of the world (i.e. when you created a new character for part 2) will be available yet again, as I quite literally only discovered the 'good guy Brash' option yesterday ><

I'm very curious to see how all the choices will influence the game as it proceeds further on, but daunted by the number of playthroughs required to do so :P

    Keep up the good work!

    We wait with bated breath.

    1. There are many parameters that got saved after chapter 2, someone could get spoiled while reading the options of a full character generator (I wouldn't want to accentuate some plot relevant things if they went unnoticed.) But I should at least allow a couple of pre-generated world states. If I forget and release the module without that feature, someone should remind me :D

  13. So, I've just finished all the released chapters. Pretty good story.

Can anyone tell me if it's even possible to get a scene with me PC and Arana? I mean, other than that bathing/kissing scene when they first escape. I liked that, and I like that they can sleep in the same bed in Ravage.

But I miss being able to kiss Arana like I did with Pia (when I was playing ADWR). It seems to me that girl-girl play isn't offered, or maybe I've chosen the wrong options when talking to the boy characters. But, I don't see how, unless it was that time there was sex...

So... since the next chapter is gonna take a while, I might have time to play things through again. Are there options to get another scene with Arana at all?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. There should be some kissing when you part ways to go to the mines, but I'm not sure if it's always available. For now, it doesn't matter what you do with the men. There is no sex with Arana yet, but the romance will be available later no matter what you did.

      Delete
  14. ^ Anon - there is a scene where you can kiss Arana before going off to retrieve the horses with Sinallion. Her romance gives me the impression that it's a slow burner due to the whole thing with Rivera still being a bit raw for her where we are up to. Hang in there, I'm sure your patience will be rewarded :)

  15. Anon again... So, given how Brash is at the end of chapter 3 (vulgar, possessive), if my PC comforted him in the maze like she did, will this only lead to him using it some time in the future when her love is wandering in other directions? Is that kind of a big event that will play out into the future, or something that can be dismissed with dialogue?

I'm just wondering if I should not go through with it when I play it through again.

Also, I didn't have enough listen skill to be able to eavesdrop on Arana's reading. And I didn't give Brash a reading, even though I do have another holy stone. Is it important/interesting at I do hear their readings? Should I invest in more listening skill /just/ for this purpose?

I also think the final battle with Rivera was pretty easy. Too easy, it turns out. I didn't expect her to die that time when she did, expecting her to teleport again. But, I did like how Raze mentioned her powers not being unlimited. Maybe that explains it, her weakened form in that fight? Not that my PC is exactly overpowered at all. She's shit. She's just been able to be competent with duel wielding in the last little while. She's a terribad fighter though, and I'm not sure if it's because of her equipment or the choices I've made with her.

Maybe I should have invested in duel-wielding /and/ ambidextrous at character gen, but it really seemed like a waste at the time. Now that my PC is only level 5 at the end of chapter 2... I'm not sure she's gonna get much better by the end of the series. Maybe level 10? And no prestige class or anything. Given one event in the game, I'm thinking of going back and making my PC evil, just so I can use a certain item she can get. It doesn't make much sense though, given her background. But there really wasn't much opportunity to alter her neutral attitude to a darker one.

Unless things like giving the baby to the cult instead of the woman in white is the way to go about it? I'm not sure, so maybe it's safer to just maker her evil at the start of things...

I probably will play this from the start again. Good luck with the next chapter, lamb. :)

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Some questions here I can't answer, but I have to say you can't give Brash a fortune reading, he's not into that crap. :D Giving the baby to the cult I think is not an evil action, you can just do what you want.

  16. First off, (late) merry christmas, and wish you a good new year, Lamb! I'm happy to see you still around, and as you can see, you do have your bunch of loyal fans following you still! :) DH is by far one of my favourite modules.
Second, dont worry, and even tho I am very eager to play the next chapter, Im aware that you have a life and things to do, Wish you the best on those!

To anon: there's a few things worth of clarifying.
    - Regarding Arana romance, Lamb did admit in one of her previous comments, that it is a slowpaced romance, and that also shes better at male-female romance writing. Doesn't mean she wont come out with some surprises in her next chapters, but for now its what we have at the moment.
    - Your char not being "overpowered" or a veteran fighter.. is not just normal, but actually meant to happen. Lamb has mentioend it before; the PC is a normal girl, no superpowers or superhuman skills other so far other than her regeneration. She starts out as a normal girl who has had no military training or anything of the sort. And the module doesnt focus heavily on "just fighting and killing stuff" like some original campaigns or other modules might do. Tl;dr= thats normal, dont worry xD
    - As mentioned before, dont expect to be playing an "op" character. And as Raze will tell you, its a good idea to surround yourself with "allies", since you're not a powerful demonheart (yet?) :P

  17. I played through the chapters again, this time investing in duel-wielding at the start. It went a lot easier. This time, I noticed that Love Jaydan was at the sanctuary. I missed that the first time, but I notice that she's able to use sneak + death attacks. Meaning she's an assassin (or more). I really hope we can eventually gain access to these classes as we get more experience. It makes sense that a professional assassin would have the classes that go with her line of work.

Anyway, I had a lot of fun playing through this. I made pretty good decisions concerning the companions I think, so I'll be looking forward to what comes next. It's hard to grasp that chapter 3 is the middle of the saga. It already seems long and involving.

By the way, if we choose to allow Feline to burn, when/if we return there, will we still get to run into some old characters, namely Lord Second? I'd... really like to "talk" to him for a bit.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Returning to Feline was planned earlier, but I cut that out, so for now I think that won't be possible :)

  21. First off let me say that I really love the module: so much atmosphere and character choice! Really happy that you’re still working on it!

I’m certainly looking forward to chapter three, but I was wondering when chapter two will be available post-beta? Last time I checked in the new Neverwinter Vault Chapter Two was still in a beta version, and when I tried to play that I found it a little too buggy to enjoy the way I enjoyed the prologue and Chapter One.

Regardless, thank you SO much for all your hard work on a fantastic module.

  22. I just played through Prelude - Ch 2 for the first time. Loved it! I even like Demonheart more than A Dance With Rogues. Happy new year, and I'm looking forward to Spring 2015 :P

  23. Have just finished the second chapter. Didn't meet any bugs during the walkthrough.
Though I have something to say 'bout the characters. Well... They're cool. Really. It was quite intresting to notice some "knightly" features in all-vulgar-and-cruel Brash, good to see he is not one-sided and plain. Arana is a sweet girl, but nothing special - and I mean it in a good way. She just seems to be a young girl who turned out to get into a rwong place and a wrong company and now she is feeling all confused because of it, while trying to preserve high spirits at the same time.
Sinallion... Erm. Let's just say he was a biiig change after everything that the main character had to go through. x) I was literally taken aback by his manners and behaviour. It's nice to see someone friendly and decent, though he still seems a bit slimy to me.)
And Raze. Ah... He is very intresting - I like his manner of speaking and the way of thinking, it's quite amusing to notice here and there how he is not yet adapted into the nature of humans, how he considers himself a superior being but is surprised by kindness and affection towards him.
Though it was somehow difficult for me to choose him as a final one-and-only "love interest" - probably because of his behaviour. How to explain... He's almost always so calm, a bit sarcastic and distant that I just can't get an impression that he really cares for PC. Not a little bit. Thus him suddenly calling her "my love" seems insincere, as if he either is lying or just doesn't understand the meaning of the word. And for the same reason PC's sudden and bright affection towards him seemed unnatural as well. Except if she is a "slutty" one who jumps on every man around. I suppose adding some emotional "caring" or even some fluff moments would serve well for the development and presenting his character.
I personally adore his appearance - yay for the hoof-legged, red-skinned, horny guys with demonic tales. There was a funny moment when he furiously refused to let PC touch his tail - I suppose it is a very sensitive area? If there will be love scene(s) with Raze, how 'bout making some tender tail caressing episode?)
Aaand that's all for now. Thank you very much for this mod - it was really cool to play it. Good luck and inspiration to you with the third part.)

    1. Thank you for the feedback :)

Usually I don't like good guys in games (because they are numerous and all the same?) But Sinallion is actually interesting to write after all the bad guys. :D

I don't know about Raze's tail, cats don't like it when you grab theirs :D

  29. Cannot wait for Chapter 3; I really can't praise the quality of your writing and how it's implemented in the module enough! Lots of variations in dialogue depending on your choices is something I really love in games, and the protagonist is very lively and interesting no matter how you choose to play her, which I found very impressive considering some of the other modules I've touched on, their main characters tend to end up a bit flat.

I also love, love Brash as a character (and a boyfriend *cough*) and how "grey" he is. Kinda reminds me of a mix between Jaime Lannister and Sandor Clegane from aSoIaF. Raze is also very interesting and I'm keen to see where his story goes, as well as the development of Arana and Sinallion.

    Thank you for this!

  35. Just binged through all three modules and I must say, this is an awesome mod. The quality is on par with ADWR and the only thing it's lacking is sheer scale - something you're fixing right now.

I hope that you'll expand Ravage a bit. Once Rivera situation is resolved, player's main goal is to grow stronger which does not necessarily translate into bolting further north as soon as possible. Cities like that are good places for various side quests, flavour scenes and character development - I wouldn't mind getting a proper cult membership and running more jobs for them, for example, and hopefully even convincing Arana to contribute more.

My only concern is that when it's finally time to confront our competitors, there will be some scripted consequences for not eating every heart and demon flesh I've come across. I'm hoping for some good old Kangaxx-wrangling should I chose to rely on skill and tactics alone rather than demonic power-ups, so it would really suck to hit a scripted "you were too merciful and your allies die for it before your eyes" scene that occurs regardless of how strong your party actually is.

    Looking forward to Ch.3.

    1. i don't think any sane person will do those type of scripts...
      that's just MassEffectively retarded.
and strip ANY point in choices,on which this module is fueled.

      Delete
    2. If I remember correctly there was a discussion ages ago were someone didn't think they got enough power, for eaten hearts, to play a solo-party without it being extremely difficult. The power you don't get for eaten every heart you can is balanced out with allies/party-members. I don't know about further opportunities, but I'm pretty sure we won't get a "you were too merciful - game over" for sparing the main party members, it wouldn't make sense to me beside being kind of a troll-ish move.

  36. So, are we gonna get a 2015 update on progress?

Please, pretty please, with sugar on top...

    ReplyDelete
  37. No update since December. While I'm sure real life is a distraction, as well as fine-tuning the remainder of the module, I'm really beginning to have doubts on this ever being finished to completion. Perhaps it was simply too much of a grand task to take on, as it seems this would have been on scale with - if not bigger - than ADWR.

I will hold out hope for at least some sort of update, even if at this point it may as well just be notice that the project is being dropped. But as long as it's been since the previous update, I really doubt we'll receive anything. Thank you for what you had finished so far, Lamb. It looked to be quite promising. But I suppose it was just too big of a project to take on at this current point in your life.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I find that to be extremely rude. You know nothing of Lamb's life; yes, she may very well be busy, but to say that this is "too big of a project to take on at the current point in her life" is extremely condescending. For all you know Lamb has had personal events going on in her life that prevent her from updating the mod as often as we may wish. But that's fair, life comes first; games, especially modding games as a hobby, come second.

Patience is key. Demonheart may not be finished anytime soon, but loyal fans will wait. ADWR hasn't been updated since 2010 but some fans of the series still hold hope that Valine may return to finish it someday. It's the same with Lamb. First and foremost should come thanks for such a wonderful mod and well wishes that her personal life is treating her kindly.

If you wish to complain about a lack of updates, by all means, do so. But do try not to sound like such a pompous ass when you're doing it, yes? Lamb doesn’t owe any of us anything. Least of all those of us who act like she does. Just be happy that such a wonderful mod exists.

And if you can't do that, feel free to go and create your own mod. No one is stopping you.

      Delete
    2. Why do you have to be so condescending? Do you have any idea how much work is recquired in order to create a module this big and this complex?

Yes, it's a big project, an enormous one in fact, and it undoubtedly takes a lot of effort and time, but what gives you the right to look down on Lamb and so superiorly say that she didn't live up to your expectations? The thing is, she doesn't *have* to deliver, she does it beacuse she wants to. She may have said that she would *try* to release the next module this spring, but it's not such an easy thing to determine and people understand this.

Also, since she worked hard not only to design the given world and script everything properly but also to give us a great, captivating story with fulfilling characters, I don't think she would be willing to just give it all up. And even if she had to, due to life situation or something, I have no doubt she would inform us.

If you can't be patient, if you don't like WIPs next time you should just wait until the entire project is finished instead of acting like a jackass.

    3. I take it you're not a big reader, or a regular gamer, or anything that actually requires time -- sometimes indefinite periods of time, occasionally with little or only infrequent word or confirmation from developers -- between installments. If you were, you'd realize that patience is a virtue and that anything of -good- quality requires time to complete.

Really, the other two posters said all that required being said. Your attitude comes off as arrogant and undeservedly entitled, and it's not your place to assume anything in regards to Lamb's module. You should consider yourself lucky -- as should we all, really -- that she's putting aside as much time and energy as she is in creating a truly amazing module that, honestly, can't be compared to ADWR or any other module, because it is unquestionably in its own league. Please keep in mind that she isn't getting paid for this. She isn't requiring us to donate. She's not expecting anything of us. She is giving this as a gift to us, and the only thing you -- we -- have room to say is "thank you" without all the additional presumption you included with it.

You also must have only recently begun following this blog, as well, otherwise you'd have been well aware that going a month or two without an update isn't a cause for panic. She gets to it when she gets to it. Sit down and wait with the rest of us who're patiently appreciating her efforts or go find something else to do with your time.

And, to Lamb: Please don't let this kind of poster discourage you. You've got a load of loyal, patient, and highly gracious followers who know that any official word will come from you and you alone -- and we'll gladly wait for that word, even if your busy life only allows you to post it every few months. You got our support. <3

    1. I think their point was that the person didn't really come across as civil. They seem like they just kind of wanted to assume everything was over and were trying to proclaim it as a given fact rather than being patient and letting Lamb handle her own announcements in her own time.

I can understand it. Nobody wants Lamb getting discouraged because of lack of support or those kind of negative assumptions. Better and more helpful to stick with it and be optimistic. That's how most of us are.

  39. Lamb, I really love the story and you as a writer. No kidding, the plot is intriguing, no boring quests, complex and charismatic characters, well written dialogues and remarks, style of art and contexture – all like a yum-yum cake =^____^= I played Demonheart right after Dragon Age: Inquisition and must admit your story telling impressed me much more, seriously:) Actually, a playing your mod is like a reading amazing book. Thank you!
I would drop a few words about omg-hot-damn-sweet characters. I’m fond of almost them all:)

Impossible to not love Raze, really:) He is all fired cute with his high intelligence, sharp tongue and childish behavior. My 3-year-old son sometimes behaves the same way, because can’t understand his emotions yet: now I love you, then I hate you. And with the same success try to puzzle out the outside world. Btw, that’s why I do believe Raze is not fake Raze... but what I know?^^

And I like well painted Brash’s psychological type, the man is complex and not monochromatic, with a glimpses of self-consciousness and trying to explain himself (not like ADWR Vico “I had a rough childhood, so I’m allowed to be an asshole, and all of it none of your concern, period”, so I had a lot of sympathy for Brash). Also there are hints at his background story with which we can see his motivation, changes and so understand his logic. Ah, plus all those charming minutiae (ring, sword, lock of hair) ^__^ So he is damn well worked out. Truly, his temper resembles a tiefling, who cannot control his blood even when he tries to be a kind person:)

As much I like Brash, I like Arana, just the same reasons, her character is marvelous painted: frail, sad, a bit of innocence and still water runs deep:)))

But there’s not much to say about Sinallion, maybe because I didn’t get the picture of his character. I hope in the next chapter he won’t be so casavir paladinish :P And… well, I don’t know how to put it right, but when Sinallion meets with Brash, it feels like “hey, big guy, don’t hurt little Sini-chan” >__< I know there is no accounting for tastes and so on, but… Oh, Lamb, please-please don’t make him the second shy and frightened Anden from ADWR:D I mean there’s nothing wrong with shy cutie, they are а delight, but without some inner strength, belief, light… people are hollow and unattractive, because they lose themselves and seem like never exist at all. Ok, I’m overthinking and stopping to whine:)))

And it would be interesting to learn more about Thayn personality, I mean there was recently said about demonspawn birth and how demonspawns feel after it (when they are wanted children, blessed with mother’s love (like Raze) and when they are born to be witch’s tools). Obvious it is very important aspect, which is based on and formed main points of view of self-existence and needs. I hope Thayn is not a mere bad and insane guy, insanity always has its roots and a newborn baby can’t grow up bad and cruel without reasons.

And again, a fantastic great work to write out in detail so many plotlines, so many conversations in different tones… awesome ^__^ And I surely like companion’s banters!
I hope my comment (promised a few words, uh-huh >__>) won’t seem prying and meticulous (very sorry if it is -__-“) I’m really enjoying your mod and eagerly, but patiently waiting for the next chapter!

Beams of goodness and love in your real life!:)

  40. p.s. – I’ve thought a lot, to ask or not… So, well… I have a question about the world-construct, i.e. about demonheart regeneration… Shouldn’t a virginal membrane regenerate as well, as others parts of a body? >___<

p.p.s. – About a lack of arrows and bolts in Rivera’s dungeon with undead beasts, when Charname and Brash escape. There are 30 arrows and 30 bolts (roughly speaking) for all way to the armory with Charname’s stuff, it’s enough for fast run, but totally not enough, if you want to clear all maze from undead creatures:( My bard had to draw a short sword in a half-way from the maze and that was a tragedy, pain and suffering because of her 8 STR and no Weapon Finesse (praise Brash, who had done all dirty work):) Please, more ammo for pitiful ranged dd :D

p.p.p.s. – Sorry for my poor grammar -__-"

  45. I am so stuck right now. I absolute love these NWN mods, more than life itself, but my save import from chapter 1 does not seem to be carrying over correctly to Chapter 2 at all. When talking to Lamb at the start zone of chapter 2, she tells me I must export my character through this menu and it will exit me to the menu. I do this. It says character exported successfully and takes me to the menu. I then proceed to 'new game' and pick the 'Demonheart Chapter 2 beta' module, and import my character that I exported from in game talking to Lamb. I start the game and Arana is dead even though she was alive (shes not with me, and Raze proceeds to ask me why the witch is pursuing me, and sarcastically comments that its a shame 'her young apprentice died' )
Also my journal is blank except only for 'Recipe: Teleport Activator' and 'Recipe: Healing Salve' under 'completed quests' no other completed quests are there, and no quests or notes in their categories either. I have the Demonheart completed chapter 1 item in my inventory. I just don't understand, Im worried to progress in case none of my decisions have been saved (I absolutely adored my playthrough and cant wait to see how my decisions all play out)

Does anyone have any idea what I can do? Im not sure if its a bug or if my export just isn't working right or what (even though i did what it told me to do by using the Lamb Menu)

I'm so desperate to play NWN chapter 2 module carrying on with my save, and then go onto playing all the visual novels too. Such amazing work. I love you Lamb!!

Anyone that can help me I would be so eternally grateful

ps. I tried adding Arana back to my party at very start of chapter 2 with debug command and savving game /reloading before raze speaks. But in convo Raze still mentions shes dead, and after the convo with him shes asks why I am distant. But my journal is still all blank except for the teleport recipes and completed quests are blank. And Raze still seems to think shes dead. And Im worried this is a sign decisions aren't recorded. thank you again xx
