Testing starts soon

I just finished my first successful full run of the module. Wow! :D Now we know that if you make the exact same choices I made, the module is playable. LOL. A public beta will come out when we rule out major bugs with the main quest's variations (in a few days).

  1. Looking forward to finally get a chance to enjoy more of your great story and characters.
Long as no bugs kills my hdd it will be worth any strain the beta could cause. :)

  4. Congrats, Lamb, and judging by your current word count, the module was a beast.

    1. But I feel like there is actually less game time than in the previous one :o
And yet it was more work and takes more work to test it.

  5. I'm guessing it has more variations. The previous one was fairly straightforward.

    Congrats, anyway.

  10. Excellent. Your work and others has inspired me to attempt modding myself. And though the scripting is very difficult it's geting better. So, in a years or so, I hope I can put out a module for you to play. Wouldn't that be great? :D

Anyway, looking forward to try part two. My character is ~so~ going to attempt to make Brash' life as miserable as she possibly can when they meet again.

Your work is very much appreciated. :)

    1. I recommend not killing Brash immediately, because there are a few opportunities to kill him in this module. :P But then again, things could go wrong for you.

    2. Heh. No, I was not planning on killing Brash outright.

It depends on his behaviour, of course. One thing I enjoyed about Demonheart in comparison to A Dance with Rogues, was that it was possible to be fairly assertive and snarky. One thing is to overwhelmed by someone bigger and stronger, another thing is being submissive. As much as I liked ADwR, I was always annoyed that the Princess never became really assertive and self assured, even after all she'd been through. She remained submissive as I'm rather certain Valine is herself. :)

So, what I mean by making Brash' life miserable, is that I hope there are options to make him ~feel~ miserable. But if all other things fail, he'll have to go. ;) In the first playthrough, at any rate.

Looking very much forward to it.

  12. Yay! I'm so excited this is coming out soon. I can't wait to dive back in, I love your characters and your story so far!

  13. I think I'll run through the prelude, and chapter 1, again. I don't plan on killing, Brash, at all. He's that roguish wreck that I can't quite peel my eyes off of. :D

    1. yeah i never kill interesting characters in rpg's or any sort of game where i get the choice to. My PC will hate his guts but also feel sorry for him in a way, plus she wants to hang on to her 'former' self by not just destroying and killing everything in her path, idk im so excited for this, thanks Lamb. Havent been this pumped for any mod/module since ADWR.

    2. I've been trying to do that too. First time away from home, feeling lost, and is a bit stupid (lol). I had to reload a couple of times, because my PC lost her temper, and got all OoC. :)

  14. I check constantly, basically every hour. Just can't wait:) PS. I do not intend to kill Brash, but to romance him. What can I say, I love this character. Keep up the good work Lamb, best of luck!

  15. Not that I mind, but there's still no need to check every hour. I've been fixing the issues in the module every day now, but there always appears some new weird problem. So it won't be today, either.

Other than that, I have to mention there might be an update including some content that I didn't implement in this version due to having much work with it as it is. So when beta comes out, only play it if you're willing to take the risk of something going wrong, or if you're willing to replay to see the additional content when it's done.

    1. Thank you for the heads up. I will check here only once every three hours from now on ;). As for the updates, I don't mind them. I like your modules and am more than willing to replay them.

    2. I've been willing to try each of yours at least twice so far.

  16. I'd bet that everyone here would be more than willing to go through the mod twice, so don't worry about that, Lamb. Besides, it gives people something to look forward to regarding future updates.

    1. Well said. I'm definitely looking forward to both the beta and any updates.

  17. How's the bug stomping going, Lamb? Do you need more people to help you out? (:

  18. I'm sorry for the delay. As usually, trying to fix one bug leads to others, so what really takes a lot of time is that the module needs to be tested after every change, or I don't really know it's playable at all.

Something has come up in real life and things aren't looking good for my productivity, so I think I will make the module public anyway. It might not be polished (music, loading screens, doors missing where there are no house areas...) and there could be more issues. But I think that later today I might be able to upload the module to one of the vaults.

I don't really know if I should primarily use the old vault or the new. Old vault has a "broken" hall of fame, so you'll find that my modules don't show up in the search when you search by rating because they were made after the site broke down (I guess). That's shitty - I'm publishing this so people could find it. I often found modules to play by searching by rating. Also, the old vault sometimes deletes files instead of updating them.

And the new vault, last I checked, doesn't have an option to update a file and replace it with a new one while keeping the download count. Imagine how many files there would be if I never deleted old versions. xD I could care less, I mean I don't have to do any of this... But the download count is kind of a recommendation to other people, too. It helps the module get noticed by those who might enjoy it.

Also, on the new vault, when I upload the module, it's published. With the old vault, I'd have to pray to the gods that the upload feature works for me at that hour, and then wait for a moderator to approve the entry.

    1. Don't sweat it, Lamb. It's ready when it's ready. We can wait.

I'm not totally sure on counts at the new vault, but the Dance with Spies module betas have been updated a ton of times, with old ones being removed. Usage is probably still low enough, that even if it got reset, you'd probably still be at the top fairly quickly.

The site is still pretty rough, though. The old vault can be iffy, too. Who knows how long you'll be waiting for approval.

Hard times for us NWN fans ;p

  19. Uploading it might be a great idea because we can find all of the bugs while you're busy taking care of real life (the important stuff!) and then report back to you when you're ready. As far as the vaults go, I say go for the new one, or maybe the Nexus. Since this isn't the final release, it wouldn't be a bad idea to put it on the lower traffic sites, and then put the polished product on the old vault.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I also advise the Nexus. It hasn't had a lot of files moved over there yet, but the Nexus site is really stable. I always download there if a mod is available on it.

    ReplyDelete
  21. imho if it's not ready then dont release it, we'll be patient.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Nexus is a good option yes. You can leave the outdated files on "older versions" and still get the number of downloads. And yes...we'll be patient as always!

    ReplyDelete
  23. hmm neverwintervault.org is a pretty good new site that a lot of neverwinter nights modders seem to be jumping on. I've never been a big fan of the Nexus, it's always hard to find stuff on there compared to the old Vault site.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Nexus is a bit complicated for me, but when the module stops needing frequent updates, I will publish there too.

  25. For what its worth, I think Pallas has a point in saying that if Lamb posts the beta up for public consumption, we can help her weed out the bugs while she takes a bit of a break from building. Constantly working on the same thing repeatedly can be rather tedious work, right?

    ReplyDelete
  26. I don't mind playing the module while its still buggy, as othe people pointed out we can praobably help with finding some of the bugs.

As for people who would rather wait, they can just ignore this release and wait for a future one.
