Quick Update

I've had some real life activities to take care of, so I wasn't able to finish the mod for testing yet. That should mean it won't come out any sooner than a week from now, and it might be later than that, too. I started testing it myself, and ran into various issues, so I'm in the middle of it.

  3. "in the middle of it" - lets hope that you find it fun to play then!

Fingers crossed for nothing significant found needing to be fixed :)

  4. Always hate when real life stuff takes away from what is truly important. ;)

Seriously though, take your time. All of us impatient, spoiled minions have waited this long. We can certainly wait awhile longer. It will just make it even sweeter for us when the wait is over and we can start playing it.

Brash will just have to be patient until I meet up with him again. ;)

  6. agreed - take all the time you need, better to get it 'right' as you wish it to be, than release and regret.

  8. So many things to fix... I left a lot of "TODO"s in the scripts and convos... On top of that, more real life obligations have been discovered.

    1. You mean "real life" has been discovered. Fascinating concept, indeed. Some scientists are now saying that there is an actual life outside internet and games.

Of course, it was ridiculed by most other scientists. They said there was no proof of this, so-called, "real life".

Don't buy into that crap, Lamb :D.

    4. Especially when SWToR is so much better :)

But like others have said - take all the time you need and work only when the mood strikes you :)

  9. you're... playing... other... games...

    YOU... are... playing... other games?

    YOU ARE PLAYING OTHER GAMES?!!!!!!!

    That's it. You're grounded!

I don't want to hear it. Now go and finish the second chapter. You're only allowed to take a break to go to toilet, to sleep or to eat, and that's 6 hours sleep and 2 meals). Don't argue with me, or it will be 5 hours sleep.

  10. Is there anything we can do to help the process along, like testing or proofreading?

    1. I wouldn't want testers to get stuck somewhere. I don't think the mod is decent enough for other people to test it yet. Except if they are fine with having to play several times until it's 100% playable.

  11. Hey Lamb, is there some kind of guideline for when you segment out each chapter of your series? Is it based on file size, or anything technical, or is it just based on a good stopping point? I ask because when I'm modding, I'm not sure I see the advantage of segmenting things. With it being the year 2014, and NWN1 being such an old game, I'd imagine load times should be quick even with a big mod.

    1. Well, here is why I did it...

      1. I was changing the beginning of the module unto insanity and felt I would never get past it unless I published it.

      2. It's easier to complete smaller modules. It's difficult enough to call Chapter 2 finished. :S I create new content when I have inspiration, but often write a half of a dialog and leave a "TODO: finish this" inside. The number of "TODO"s in my dialogs and scripts is insane even for 1/4 of the whole thing. I always allow myself to write for future modules if inspiration strikes, though.

      3. It's relatively late for NWN modules, so I wanted to have something out as soon as possible.

      4. I wanted some feedback/support, since this has been in the dark for a long time.

      5. The toolset is actually slow... I don't know if it's because of incompatibility with the newer systems and hardware. Now I have NWN installed on a solid state drive and use a toolset loader that makes it run faster, so it's ok. But a few years ago, I remember searching through ADWR could take forever. I noticed it ran slower when I had many custom things in palettes.

At first, I wanted to separate the module in 2: "Demonheart - the hunted" and "Demonheart - the huntress". In the first part, people are out to kill you, and in the second, you hunt some other people. But that's not really the plot any longer.

The Ravage part was supposed to be much smaller, so I intended to stuff it into the module which is now Chapter 1. But I somehow changed the plan and designed more content for it, but I had already announced the first module (and was late with it). So I decided to split it further. And now that's a guideline for me - the other modules should be around the same size as Chapter 1.

Also, I try to lay out the important events so that something important happens in every module. Every module has a theme in my head.

  12. Yep Aurora Toolset gets slower on newest systems and every custom shit on the palette makes it worst...>_<. My PW module lasts around 40 seconds to open a propierties window making it really boring to fiddle within the objects, npcs and such things.

  15. Easter Monday tomorrow (today!) no pressure :)

Seriously though - looking forward to when you are happy to release it :)

  16. Well, she did say *around* Easter. And I'm not sure if it's Western Easter or Eastern Orthodox Easter. Though aren't they the same this year? Hmm. Not sure.

Anyway, I just dream of Demonspawn with little bunny ears and tail delivering this module to me when it's ready. Then again, maybe I shouldn't eat pizza just before bedtime. ;)

  17. All Christian churches celebrate Easter on the same date this year.

Just keep cool, guys and gals. Around Easter doesn't mean on Easter.

Few days more or less isn't the end of the world and I'm sure Lamb is aware how much we'd like to play this one.

  18. Anyways, hope you know this tool Lamb: http://www.neverwinternights.info/nwntx.htm

It's a client extender for Aurora. I'm about to start using it and see how works, specially loading things.
