Working on Chapter 2

It's been a long time without an update and even longer without a screenshot.

While working on the old tedious tasks, I had to make some unplanned changes to the existing content to keep me entertained. I did this shortly before releasing chapter 1 too, where the "hospital" dream used to have only one version (for the good/neutral PC). Now, in chapter 2, you can make a choice in a dream that used to have only one default player reaction. (Dreams are weird and blurry, so you don't always have a choice.)

I wish I could speed up the production and finish the beta already... This time, I might make significant changes to the module after receiving feedback. But I have to make it decent enough for playing first. Arrrgh.

  1. Go on, keep the good work! I think I will need to replay chapter 1 and then get into the chapter 2 to remember why I'm there lol

  2. Good use of shadow! And impressive red hair :)

Happy to wait until you're satisfied with your creation.

  3. I don't think you should sweat much about feedback. This is your story and I think I prefer it that way.

You've got us all hooked so far, and we don't even have an idea where the story is going. The characters and the world is just so interesting, you can take me anywhere within it and I'd be a happy puppy.

    1. Yes, but... I've had various versions of the story, and I'm not sure I settled for the best one. So if it turns out I messed up one of the companions in such a way that they don't have enough content, or no one likes them anymore, I might revert to a different version of them xD

    2. Be mindful that not all players comment here or give you any feedback at all. There is no way of knowing if "no one likes them anymore" so I would suggest you keep it the way YOU want it, not the other way around :)

    3. Lamb, please, don't worry to much about your characters and story. I guess I'm a person with a very high standards about these things (read too much russian classical literature ._.) and was impressed by both of them. Realy-realy impressed. Write characters which fit into the story or as you want them to be. After all you are the only person who knows where all the plotlines go, you know better. Have more faith in yourself and don't try to please everyone. It's impossible, realy.)
Well here is my humble piece of support. And sorry if my english is a mess.

    4. Anonymous, I just wanted to say, assuming English is not your first language, you are better at writing in it than like 95% of Americans. The only mistake you made was realy, which should be really. Congratulations you just owned a crap-ton of English speakers in their own language. (I'm an American, and in this one thing I am often ashamed by my fellow country-men.)

Also, Lamb, do whatever the hell you want. You are a fantastic storyteller, I love every second of your story, and I can't wait for more.

    5. +1 To the first paragraph.

Lamb, just give us enough choices along the story and that's all, even at the little details we can find some fun!

  4. Update: I am cutting some unfinished parts of the module and rejoicing that things are becoming clean. If you have been following the "word count" thing on the side, you have seen and will probably continue to see the word count drop. xD

    1. Hey, sometimes to make something better you need to ditch the unnecessary bits. Besides you can always update the module at some later point and add some extra sidequests in, like how you added in the option to run away from Brash.

  5. 4000 words less?! That's someone graduation thesis. Why, oh Lamb, why? Have you no respect for the written word? Is nothing sacred to you?

Ok, be still, my heart. Must calm down. Breathe, that's it, just breathe...

Kidding aside, great news you're making progress and polishing things up.

    1. It hurts every time I have to do it... There were some quality sailors there...

    2. Not the sailors! Oh no! The humanity!

Sorry to hear of both the demise of the words and of the sailors as well. But I know some sacrifices have to be made for the greater good. Glad to know though you are still making progress and working towards getting this module completed.

Btw, I keep forgetting that English isn't your native language. Which makes this huge project of yours even more impressive to me. Your creativity is to be commended -- especially considering it's being done in another language. And done so well, I might add.

Hope all continues to go well! And don't forget to back it all up, just in case. Never know when a nasty data dump might occur.

Thanks again for the update. Even if my sailors and their ship might have sailed. ;)

    3. Oh, did you get reminded it isn't my native language because I just made a mistake? :D

BTW, my proofreader has been super lazy lately, but he takes offense when I ask if I should get more help. It seems I will finish the module before he reads all the conversations (which aren't all done yet, but assuming that I keep working on it for a few more weeks...)

    4. Yes, it was because you made a mistake -- you cut out some quality sailors. Which is a mistake. :P

Otherwise, until I remembered awhile back you said English wasn't your 1st language, I wouldn't have ever known just from your prose here and in your modules.

I guess good proofreaders are hard to find. Tell him/her that there are lots of us out here who are waiting for this module to be completed and that he/she is holding things up! Get on with it already! ;) Lazy proofreaders are the worst, I tell ya... Heh.

    5. Now I'm a little curious as to what "backwater country" is Lamb from. Her own words not mine. I'm from what most people would consider that too, Portugal and I don't really like the designation. Can you tell us where you're from Lamb?

      Delete
    6. I'd rather not. I'm supposed to be anonymous.

  6. I'm not worried about that, I have faith in your judgement.

What I am slightly more worried about, though, is that with your drive for quality and polish, you'll burn out before you finish the story.

So, don't be shy about asking for help. I'll help you any way I can and I'm sure there are others who would do the same.

  7. Lamb if your proofreader is being slow then gets offended when you suggest getting help that is not ok. If you need help from more than one source you should be able to get it without being made to feel guilty. I don't want to spoil things but I would be more than happy to help proofread if you need anything.

    1. In the previous module we had some errors even though I thought he read it all. It could have been my mistake, though, since I kept changing things.

Well, he just finished reading some Brash conversations. It was funny. I wrote "cock protector" and he said to write "codpiece". Then I felt so silly.

Maybe the best way for you would be to read through the conversations when beta is released? Otherwise, I can send them in separate module files (I don't like sending the unfinished module, so I just import the conversations into a new one) or in some html format that I made for proofreading.

    2. If you would like the help I would be more than willing to. As for how, whatever way works best for you. It might be best to send the modified module, since I can use the toolset to read the files. Alternately if its easier to send an html file that would be fine to. I'll just try to avoid reading stuff with Brash though until the module is released, I just enjoy the plotline with him so much I'm going to do my best to avoid spoiling it. And like I said, this only if you want the help. I truly can't tell you how much I anticipate this, honestly I'm anticipating your modules far more than any other game being released this year or the next. The story and the characters are interesting, and I'm able to play whatever sort of demonheart girl I wish, naive or wary, angry or depressed. It is really truly spectacular fun.

  9. Hi Lamb, in your journey towards modding, have you ever found a way to remove alignment restrictions specifics to classes, like Paladin? I figured out how to restrict player CLASSES, thanks to you, but now I need to remove Paladin's lawful good restriction. I'm creating a corrupted Paladins mod, so I can't tolerate a Lawful Good character. As a template, I'm using your _top hak file btw.

  10. Open the classes.2da file (I like to use notepad++ to edit 2das) and find the paladin line.
Change the AlignRestrict from 0x15 to 0x00 and the AlignRestrctType to 0x0 to remove class restrictions.

    1. I tried that. It doesn't work. Tried doing it with other classes too with no success. I can tell the file is being saved and read correctly because if I fiddle with anything else, I see the changes work.

I guess what I could do is turn the Fighter class into a Paladin by matching the Fighter to the Paladin's name, plural, lower, icon, spells, etc. Maybe that way it would dodge the alignment restriction, but wow, what an inconvenience.

    2. I remember reading about it. It was something like, if you change that file, you might be able to level up as non lawful good, but not create the character, or something like that. I think I wanted to allow lawful bards, but don't know what happened with that.

Renaming the fighter class would probably be better, or copy the fighter line and paste it below everything to make a new class, then rename it.

    3. @ DeMeDy
It has worked for me in the past. One question. Are you attempting to do this in the vanilla game or in a player created module. If you want to modify a class in a player made module that already has a modified classes.2da the classes.2da in the module's hak file will be loaded over the one in the override folder, or at least that is my understanding.

I know I've used the trick in the past to allow for chaotic monks and a similar trick to remove the class restriction on red dragon disciple.
